A few notes about our country of service . . .

The food is excellent, the climate is usually WARM and humid in the lowlands, COLD and dry in the highlands.

Highest point: 21,463 feet (Nevado Sajama.  Higher than anything we have in the USA, including our highest peak--Mt. McKinley in Alaska)

There are about three cell phone numbers for every fixed "landline" phone.  Landline phones are much more expensive.

GDP is listed at $27.21 billion, compared to the US's more than $12 trillion.  With approximately 64% of Bolivians below their poverty line (the rate in the USA is about 12% ), Bolivians average an income of about 100-200 dollars a month, somewhere around $2,000 a year.  There are BIG class differences however.  There are very wealthy people and very poor people.

Industries: soybeans, coca leaves, coffee, sugarcane, rice, potatoes, mining tin/ other metals, natural gas, candy, soda, handicrafts, Bolivianita gems/ jewelry, etc.. (The Bolivians are BRILLIANT artisans).

Literacy rate for those 15 and over: 87.2% (quite a bit higher for men, quite a bit lower for women)  That of the US is 99% for both men and women.

Approximately 6 % of the roads are paved (compared to 65 % in the States)

Current President is Evo Morales Aima, and current VP is Alvaro Garcia Linea.
