| I'm still trying to figure out the significance of some of this dance. But I was told the masked characters represent ancestors who made fun of Jesus Christ when the Jesuit missionaries first came to SJ de Chiquitos and told them about Him. One of the masked "abuelos" came into town hall a few minutes later(some of them seemed pretty liquored up--one was carrying a bottle) and smacked Tom and I in the face with what looked like a dead rabbit hide. Haha . . . I was glad that he didn't do it to our kids! He was acting silly, and the hide seemed well-tanned and clean, but it was still gross. |
